FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Association of Professional Towsurfers, Inc. (APT)
APT World Tour Tow-In Surfing Circuit
Laguna Beach, CA - September 15, 2008
April 15 - October 31, 2008
APT/Chile, Punta de Lobos Tow-In Event Announces One Last Extension
for Holding Period
The Association of Professional Towsurfers, Inc. (APT) is extending the
holding period of the Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu Chile World Cup Tow-In
Surfing Championship thru October 31, 2008. Originally scheduled with a
three month holding period, APT will now have a six month holding
period in hopes of a contestable swell.
In the last five months, the event has gone to four major AMBER ALERTS
with the intent to call the event on. However, Mother Nature made the
final call for all alerts. Now the event organizers are hoping that with this
last and final extension, the right swell will come as a last minute surprise
during the final stage of another Southern Hemisphere winter season.
"We stand behind APT and the decisions they have made thus far for the
event. So far all their decisions have been right on. No one controls
Mother Nature and we just have to be patient and take it as it comes. We
are more than ever, truly excited about this event and we think that
another extension is a great idea." - Jamie Sterling/APT-Pro-Rated
Competitor
"As I said before, and I will say it again, we are not loosing faith in Mother
Nature, not even for a second! We all believe this contest will happen and
until it does, we will keep promoting this event and organizing other
events for the future of the APT World Tour Tow-In Surfing Circuit. KEEP
THE DREAM ALIVE!"- Eric Akiskalian, APT Founder and President
Competitors for this world-class event consist of the top eight rated
teams from the 2007 APT season along with Chile representation and
professionally established big wave riders from Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti,
Mexico, California, Brazil and Ireland. The top 16 teams that place in this
event will then move on to compete in the second leg of the tour which
will be in Hawaii during the 2008/2009 winter season.
Surfline.com, the event’s forecast sponsor, will provide all the latest swell
forecasts and assist the APT staff in making the right call.
Media outlets from around the globe are invited and encouraged to show
up and document this event when the green light is on!
