We’re just two days away from opening ceremony and we want to let
everybody know what’s happening with this year’s event and opening
ceremony. We’re going to be sending out periodic email blasts to keep
everybody updated on some of the details that get overlooked, events
associated with the contest, opportunities and just mainly to stay
connected.
First on the agenda is the issue of the release. There’s been a lot of email
traffic going back and forth about this. We are working through the
proposed changes and will have a completed version of the release next
week. If you have already signed it and turned it in do not worry. You will
be given the opportunity to sign an amended version. Just to be clear,
nobody was ever in any danger of being removed off the list. The packet,
as it stands, is solid and with a few changes we will collectively get it set
in stone so we don’t have to revisit this issue in the future. Thanks for
your patience.
Next we want to let you know who’s sponsoring the event this year.
Sony Ericsson is the presenting sponsor of this year’s contest. Additional
contest sponsors include: Jim Beam Bourbon, Barracuda Networks, Moose
Guen and Jane Sutherland of MVision, Facebook, the Bay Club, The
Corporate Law Group, Gnarly Head Wines, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.,
Airship Ventures, Vertical Response, Surfer Magazine, Oceano Hotel &
Spa, Stormsurf.com, Rickshaw Bagworks, Upstream and Capture
Technologies.
Frank Quirarte has recently joined the MSV Team and will be acting as
Brand Manager. He will also be working with Katherine, myself and the
MSV crew on the event. He will be announcing the line-up on the beach
at the Opening Ceremony and then introducing a very special guest, Doc
Paskowitz. Doc has written a special prayer just for the event.
After that Gary Linden will be saying a few words along with Pete Mel.
Then we’ll be asking the past champions to step forward and say
something as well. Twiggy won’t be attending he’s waiting for a solid
swell but has written something for us to read on his behalf.
After that we’ll paddle out as usual and then back to the Oceano Hotel for
the post celebration and heat draw. Everybody is genuinely stoked to get
this year’s waiting period underway.
